It’s the start of National Volunteer Week! Yep, it's that wonderful time of year when we celebrate the incredible spirit of giving back and making a difference in our communities.

Origins and Importance of National Volunteer Week

National Volunteer Week dates back to 1974, when it was established by the Points of Light Foundation. Since then, it has become a cherished tradition, shining a spotlight on the invaluable contributions of volunteers from all walks of life. From lending a helping hand at local shelters to beautifying parks and schools, volunteers truly embody the power of kindness and compassion.

But why is volunteering so important, you ask? Well, it's simple really. Volunteers are the heart and soul of our communities. They selflessly dedicate their time, skills, and energy to address pressing needs and create positive change.

Getting Involved with RTGC

Here at Rebuilding Together of Greater Charlotte, we value the contributions of volunteers all year long, not just for a single week! Members of our [Re]New Crew are volunteers who come together to repair and renovate homes for neighbors in need in Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Mecklenburg, and Union counties. From repairing broken steps to installing easy-to-clean vinyl flooring, their efforts not only improve living conditions but also ensure our neighbors are able to live safely at home, age in place, and pass their properties along to the next generation of their families.

So, here's where you come in! If you're looking for a meaningful way to give back and make a real difference in the lives of others, why not join the [Re]New Crew? Whether you're handy with a hammer already or simply have a heart for helping, there's a place for you on their team. Together, we can continue to spread kindness, build community, and create a brighter future for all.

Happy National Volunteer Week, everyone! Let's roll up our sleeves and show the world the power of compassion in action.
