![]() Did you know Charlotte is projected to add nearly 400,000 people in the next 20 years? Over the past 50 years, Charlotte has grown from 288,000 to more than 857,425 residents. Such impressive growth requires an equally impressive plan. The Charlotte Future 2040 Comprehensive Plan is a policy document that explains the community’s vision for the future and addresses key issues like housing affordability, displacement, transportation, economic segregation, and creating complete neighborhoods across the city. The Charlotte Future 2040 Comprehensive Plan creates equity by design. It begins with a recognition of the history of redlining and urban renewal that exacerbated racial disparities, advantaging whites at the expense of communities of color. The plan acknowledges and addresses the enduring legacy of segregation in our city, and creates a roadmap to ensure that all residents of Charlotte – our current neighbors and those who have not yet arrived – have equitable access to the benefits of our city’s growth. At Rebuilding Together of Greater Charlotte, we believe everyone deserves a safe home and community, and we need a bold, innovative plan to get us there. Ending exclusionary single-family zoning is a critical step forward in adding the “Missing Middle” for greater housing choice and affordability. We call on Charlotte City Council to fully adopt the 2040 Comprehensive Plan by June 2021 to support our community’s equitable growth and development." We are in support of the adoption of the Charlotte Future 2040 Comprehensive Plan and are excited by the opportunity it represents to guide our city’s equitable growth and development. We call upon Charlotte City Council to pass the Charlotte Future 2040 Comprehensive Plan by June 2021 in one of the City Council’s June meetings. The vision outlined in the Plan is ambitious and achievable if we all come together!
